Burnt my third batch of sweet potato fries in a row this morning

I set the temp at 400 like every recipe says but they came out black on the outside and raw in the middle. My air fryer is only 6 months old so I don't think it's broken. Maybe I need to cut them thinner or shake the basket halfway through? Has anyone found a time that actually works for sweet potato fries without burning them?

Are you shaking the basket halfway through? That was the game changer for me after I kept getting the same burnt outside raw middle issue.

omg YES okay I was totally the same way, I used to think shaking it was just some overhyped tip and I'd skip it like a lazy idiot. But once I actually tried it, huge difference, I swear the outside doesn't get that dark crusty layer anymore. It's wild how just a quick shake halfway through evens everything out so the heat hits all the pieces more evenly. I was so stubborn about it for months and now I feel kinda dumb for not listening sooner lol. Honestly it's the one thing I'd tell anyone who's struggling with that burnt outside raw center problem, just try it once and you'll see.
